Nottingham Roller Girls kick off the 2014 season with their Heartland Series debut; a double header that sees Vendetta Vixens play Cambridge’s Romsey Town RollerBillies while the home team take on Oxford Roller Derby.
The Heartland Series is Europe’s largest interleague Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby Tournament. Twenty four leagues from England and Wales will be divided into four regional divisions for double header bout days spanning the year, with a walloping two day playoff weekend in November to find who will be Heartland Champions for 2014!
The Vixens had a laudable 2013 series finishing 4th in the Western Division with a particular highlight being their game against Severn Roller Torrent who would go on to lift the trophy. Derby Data Europe had anticipated a crushing defeat of 300-79. The Vixens kept the opposition below two hundred points; the final score was a respectable 194-137.
In the Eastern Division, Romsey Town RollerBillies took the top position comfortably. A strong performance throughout, they were defeated by Severn Roller Torrent 129-114 in the final jam of what has been described as an ‘epic final’.
Oxford finished just ahead of the Vixens in the Westen Division winning three of their five games. Founded in 2011, they came third in what is considered to be the original Heartland Series, The End of the World Series. A seasoned team, this could be NRG’s toughest game yet.
