While contemplating the idea of confronting fears, I asked a few of our league members to tell me about their derby fears, and how they hoped to overcome them. Read more

Returning to Roller Derby with Metal Legs
In a sport like roller derby injury is a very real danger. Hurling yourself at other people with 8 wheels attached to your feet isn’t the safest pastime after all. So unfortunately, most players will face some kind of injury during their derby career. Read more
Fools Roll In – My first week on skates
Lacking the basic equipment to become a roller girl, I signed up for the Brollers ‘Fresh Meat’ course. At 34 I’m not sure how fresh I am, I’ve certainly been left hanging for a while. On the plus side, with great age comes great wisdom; although not so great since the idea of getting on skates didn’t seem like a bad idea. We have the National Health Service, ‘it’ll be fine’. NRD go to Brawlgust London Roller Girls Boot Camp 2014

I remember jamming and realising that maybe I hadn’t quite thought this through… Read more

A Broller’s Spin On Fresh Meat
It had been 15 years since I last laced up a pair of skates – but what the hell, it’d be like riding a bike, right?! Read more
Feminism, Roller Derby And Why Men Are Not The Devil
I’ve got serious feminist rage at the moment. It feels like everywhere I look, I’m seeing opinions that are derogatory to women and the feminist cause. But – shock horror! – they’re not the opinions of men. They’re the opinions of women who need to reacquaint themselves with the definition of feminism. Read more
