In a sport like roller derby injury is a very real danger. Hurling yourself at other people with 8 wheels attached to your feet isn’t the safest pastime after all. So unfortunately, most players will face some kind of injury during their derby career. Read more
Lacking the basic equipment to become a roller girl, I signed up for the Brollers ‘Fresh Meat’ course. At 34 I’m not sure how fresh I am, I’ve certainly been left hanging for a while. On the plus side, with great age comes great wisdom; although not so great since the idea of getting on skates didn’t seem like a bad idea. We have the National Health Service, ‘it’ll be fine’. I’ve never been one for sports. In school, I couldn’t be bothered with fitness; I had better things to do. Football and the like left me cold. I dislocated my knee aged 15 and I was actually relieved that I wouldn’t have to do PE any more. So the idea that one day I would end up involved in any sport was unthinkable, if not downright hilarious. Read more
For the first time, we will be hosting an evening game in Nottingham with a fully licensed bar overlooking the track. Entry will be a £2 (or more) donation on the door and all money raised will go to our nominated charity, Equation. So come and watch the skaters at NRG and SSB take on each other at a mixed coed game. Read more
