WINNING STREAK!!! There, we said it. Nottingham Roller Girls are on a winning streak, winning six of their last seven games and most recently claiming a 199 point victory against the South East Division’s Bedfordshire Roller Girls. On day three of the North East competition, they are set to take on BRG’s cross-county rivals, Rebellion Roller Derby.
Last year was an emotionally tough time for Rebellion who admirably kept the league competing while remaining a noticeable force on the Heartland scene. They continued into 2014 with the same momentum, only narrowly missing out on a victory against Wolverhampton by a mere 12 points in last month’s Heartland fixture.
Nottingham Roller Girls have no choice but to focus on a win if they are to remain relevant in the competition. While showing real competence as a team, it’s the flashes of brilliance from individuals such as Hell ‘n’ Back, and The Ruth Hurts, that make watching these girls such an exhilarating experience.
Rebellion, by comparison, hit hard! Players such as Catface KillHer dish out huge hits and take counter-blocks in their stride. They also have an impressive array of ‘double threats’ on the roster, with Inky Mink, Lulu Bloodlust and Dew Dropher all being integral players in their comeback against WHR.
In the second game, hosts Wolverhampton Honour Rollers are matched against Vendetta Vixens who will be looking to make their mark after a loss to league favourites Cambridge. We’re expecting big things from the home team’s Caztastrophie and are eager to see what Vendetta’s Octavia Rain has in store for the opposition.
Of course, it’s also the North East Division’s first game under the March 2014 WFTDA rules which may have an impact on the predicted scores. What will happen on the day? You’ll just have to come along and find out!
